Lancaster:  More than 13,000 people attended last year's Family Farm Days making it a very successful opportunity for educating the non-farm public about the importance of Lancaster County agriculture and providing an excellent opportunity for quality contacts with the attendees. This year, 2010 Family Farm Days is scheduled for June 15, 16 and 17. The event will run from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day and will be held at Oregon Dairy.

The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Agriculture Committee truly appreciate the support you have provided for this three day educational event. We hope that you also find value in Family Farm Days and will once again support the event. To renew your commitment or to upgrade your support to any of the opportunities on the attached document, please return the attached form (download here) no later than Friday, May 14. Dairy Industry Featured in Central Penn Business Journal
Monday, January 18, 2010 22:15

Harrisburg:  In an article by Paula Holzman in the January 15, 2010 issue of the Central Penn Business Journal entitled "Digging Out Dairy", Project Manager Gary Willier and Steering Committee Jeff Balmer were among a variety of folks who commented on the low dairy prices that made 2009 a bad year for the industry.  Willier spoke to the effect of the 27% drop in prices on Lancaster County which is one of the top 10 dairy producers in the country.  Lower prices led to less investment in infrastructure and more debt.  Balmer and other producers addressed the need to re-examine government policy in light of the roller coaster of price increases and decreases.

Thanks to Gary and Jeff for representing the dairy industry and the Center of Excellence as we try to explain the industry to the public.
